What surprised me personally was that our 505 is actually really popular.
We restock 505 once in a year or so and I was hoping that some 505 lovers, who are much rarer than 501 lovers, would grab them sometimes but they always end up getting sold out soon.
I discussed it with Ryo and he said that they're not too skinny or too wide, but the tapered silhouette from the knees down is popular especially among overseas denim fans.
We've produced black jeans in the past as "Winter jeans".
At first, I, a big indigo jeans guy, wondered if the black would be accepted but when I saw the faded BK jeans, they were not that bad at all. As a result all the black jeans got sold out quite fast, which was another good surprise for me.
And this time, we're combining these two surprises to announce the 505-style BKBK.
The fabric is 12oz. black yarns used for both the warps and the wefts.
Using No. 7 warp thread and No. 9 weft thread, mainly made of American cotton, the yarn with natural unevenness is sulfur dyed/ rope-dyed to give it a vintage-like black finish. Since it is rope-dyed, it will fade vertically, so you can enjoy the fade in black jeans over time.
This time, the fabric is 505-based and is sanforized as the vintage 505s go. Standardly, the weft thread is slightly less densely woven, so when it fades, it expresses the thin and worn look of old jeans. Therefore, it would be good to wash it more and wear it with a faded look that resembles vintage black jeans.
It also has a unique detail.
The fabric of the waist belt part is used vertically, which means that the fabric woven on an old shuttle loom does not have enough width for the waist fabric.
Since it is black denim, it is difficult to tell by appearance, but the waist belt is made of fabric woven on an innovative loom, and the main body is made of the fabric woven on a vintage shuttle loom, reproducing the specifications of the rare vintage 505 we own.
