It's from more than 100 years ago but I must admit that this pocket was made with much contemplation even though they look just like some doodle by kids. The designer must have wanted to have a useful pocket that has 3 different compartments but needed to have the sewing process as simple and easy as possible for the mass production, I suppose. and BANG! the genius from 100 years ago came up with this great pocket design.

Cloth patch
Boss of the Road is basically a dog brand but when it comes to TCB reproducing a product of any brands, we need it to be a cat. We have done this to Black Bear, Long horn cow, two horses and uncle Steve if you know what I mean.
We always have a playful mind with any tag design so this time we've created 8 different patch designs for this overall. (It's like a tag lottery so we just ship whatever design at random)

Hard wears
The buttons are two-pronged, made only for this new model. The wire hooks are often seen on vintage garments of 1910~20's. Very classical details here too.
I often mention on the blog that the Japanese denim industry is diminishing and said to be dying in 10 years but the factory who's been making these wire hooks has recently gone bankruptcy so not sure if we can continue making this model with the same detail but for the 1st production run, we've used these wire hooks for all stocks.

Fabric
It's 10.2oz denim with wefts of yarn count 8 and was of yarn count 14. When choosing which yarn to use, the basic is to use the similar yarn count for both wefts and warps. If you look at some 13 or 14 oz fabric, it's usually like wefts:7 and warps:6 or wefts:7 and warps:9. So the difference between the wefts and the warps is relatively big for this new overall. Then why??

Imagine some high grade knit sweater with a fine gauge. If the wefts are fine and narrow, the warps can be woven much more densely, meaning that the fabric can achieve as much durability as heavy oz fabric even though the yarn count of the threads is not that thick. One more good point of the said balance between thick warps and narrow wefts is that the warps tend to develop strong vertical fade if the warps are much thicker than the wefts. It means, in other words, the warps sits almost on the wefts if you look at the fabric through a magnified lens, leading to the warps having more contact with frictions etc.

It's 2 by 1 fabric so at first it might look flat and boring but you can expect some wild fade from this fabric. Speaking of the dye color, the indigo is not as dark as average jeans so you find a bit more blueish tinge on this fabric but this time we've payed an extra care to the wefts which are often thought to be less important but we have dyed the wefts in very pale beige color.
This is just my opinion as a jean maker but I think people used to think that the darker the fabric is the better quality it is. However, it of course costs more to produce the darker indigo threads so people instead used dyed wefts to make the fabric darker so that stains and dirts don't stand out on a clothing. If you have a chance to see this overall in person, please check the backside of the fabric too and then you'll soon realize it looks different from normal denim fabric.

Cut
It's quite difficult to describe by writing but the legs have slight tapering towards the bottom and it's a touch slimmer than the other TCB overalls. Styling a bib overall might seem a bit challenging if you are not used to it but we'd like to recommend this one for bib overall beginners!! We suggest you choose the size based on your jeans size of any TCB jeans. In that way, it will be a nice, relaxed fit which we think is a good overall fit.

At last, we have studied thoroughly about the patent and the name of this iconic pocket but there is no record found about this pocket. Because it's left hand twill, the angle of the weaving becomes a bit steeper than right hand twill because of the construction of the vintage shuttle loom machines, which will lead to rather some waterfall fade (vertically faded) than dotty fade seen on Levis. Speaking of the sanforizing process, it consists of 3 different processes: Anti-twisting, anti-shrinkage, and singeing (burning the fluffy hairs on the surface of fabric). Looking at the vintage Wrangler of the 50's, the legs twist strongly so we have only done the anti-shrinkage process for this fabric. From the manufacturing point of view, I'd say the Levis flap is more cost/production efficient though.

There's also one strange point on the stitch on the waist. I thought it was just an irregular point on the specific vintage jacket Ryo has but as I studied the details more from other jackets of the same era, the stitch on the waist is always off so I assume it was intentionally done. But again, I think the way Levis finishes the waist stitch appears more efficient again...

For the bar tucks on the pleats, it's the round one this time.
For these dot tucks, we usually use more narrow thread like yarn count:50 but if made with the narrow thread, it makes the perfect round dot tucks and it doesn't look like the vintage ones. (Usually we attach any rivets on any jeans from the outer side because it's much easier) Maybe this was also a part of differentiating Wrangler from the pioneers' riveting such as Levis' concealed rivets or Lee's thread rivets but it is indeed more difficult to do from the inner side so that I've found many Wrangler vintage jeans with the rivets attached in the wrong place as I studied more for this reproduction. By the way, I've had many complaints from our crews too reg this rivets saying it's harder than it looks.

I have studied old ads too and have found out an unique sewing detail that can't be seen on any Levi or Lee. Please look at the picture No: 5, you see the lap seam on the back yoke and the back body there. For most of the jeans, the back body sits on the yoke but on this Wrangler jeans, it's the opposite: the back yoke sits on the back body. Please check the lap seam there on all the jeans you have. I think most of the jeans are not sewn in the way it was sewn for Wrangler. Then, why did Wrangler do this?

Wrangler was the work wear for the real cowboys so each detail has its own reason like the ones of military wear. The little gap made by the lap seams work as drop-proof when riding a horse. Due to the difference of the construction, it makes the look a bit more sharp than Levis or Lee? but this might be subjective though.

The ads also put an importance on the more useful coin pocket. The placement of the coin pocket is higher and the opening is much wider for the Wrangler coin pockets. The aim was of course for cowboys. Wrangler did this detail thinking about the usability when riding a horse.

Looking at the finish on the crotch or on the fly, the overlock stitch is common for jeans but all the finish on Wrangler jeans is very neatly done, not showing a single overlock stitch. It doesn't make a difference for the durability I guess but people must have had a good impression on this since it looks so neat inside. Slim and vintage-like contradicts for a true vintage jeans lover like me. But as I dealt with many customers at shop, I recieved many feedbacks requesting slim jeans. The design is based on a vintage denim tux from the cowboy brand dating back to the late 1940's to the 50s. Jeans were originally garments intended for a wide range of people, serving as reliable companions for coal miners, farmers, and workers across various professions. Yet, what makes this particular pair so interesting is that, within that broad appeal, it was also designed with a very specific scenario in mind: riding a horse.

For this revival, we decided to revisit one specific element: the fabric. Previously, we used EMOT cotton—a blend sourced from East Memphis, New Orleans, and Texas—with 5.7-count warp yarns and 6.7-count weft yarns. We engineered that fabric specifically to produce the long, continuous fading lines characteristic of left-hand twill denim. While we have kept the EMOT cotton blend this time, observing how the initial batch aged made me want to tweak the fading characteristics to achieve even longer vertical streaks. Consequently, we adjusted both the warp and weft yarns to a 6-count thickness. Furthermore, by creating longer slubs irregularities in the yarn, we are physically generating more pronounced variations on the fabric surface to achieve those elongated, streaky fading patterns. Although the name may be familiar, this is not merely a reproduction; it is the Cat's Drive reimagined through the lens of TCB today.

↓Matching Jacket

https://tcbjeans.myshopify.com/products/cats-drive-jacket?_pos=3&_sid=09ca8ca36&_ss=r

□Size

On the left/ Sena with a cap. 170cm 61kg wearing JK36 PT30.
He prefers a snug fit for jackets and it's a good and snug fit with a T-shirt underneath.
Some light sweatshirt can be worn inside if the jacket is worn with the front buttons are open. Perhaps this was the first time, the front pleats were recognized as a "design" rather than a "specification." This time, we created a jacket with the 1950s front zip, rounded bar tucks, action pleats, and six elastic bands. We could not make use of the accumulated know-how, knowledge so far so we started the product development from the scratch. Wrangler is the big 3 brands in the American denim history but compared to the other 2, the history is relatively shorter, starting from 1975 under the name of Wrangler. While I was doing a research on their vintage, the ads, etc, I found an interesting page on the Gimmie Book (the last picture).

A kid dressed in the cowboy style says

"Mom likes 'em 'cause they're sanforized, says they're so easy to wash."

This was a proof that Wrangler's fabric is sanforized so thanks to this little kid, we have done the fabric right! It's a left hand twill, 11.6 oz fabric with yarn count 9 for both the warps and wefts.

According to my research, the Wrangler's art number for this model, 11MW, comes from the fact that the fabric used on this model was 11oz. Instead of shaving the surface like typical paper brushing, this process raises the fibers gently, creating a soft, fluffy texture and a natural look. They are made using a very rare weaving technique known in Japan as Sai-ori (literally translated into re-weaving).
The technique originated in Europe as chenille weaving; it was introduced to Japan during the Meiji era and evolved uniquely in the Koyaguchi district of Wakayama Prefecture.
A standard towel is finished after a single weaving process. But *Sai-ori is different.
First, a fabric with horizontal stripes, composed solely of colors, is woven. This fabric is then cut into narrow strips to create individual strands of chenille yarn.
Finally, that chenille yarn is used as the weft to weave the pattern itself. In other words, the fabric is woven twice to create the final product.
That is why it is called *Sai-ori (re-weaving). I thought of making use of this technique to denim but it'd be crazy expensive for sure.

Only a few meters of fabric can be woven in a single day with this weaving style.
From the standpoint of efficiency alone, it is an incredibly extravagant production method.
It is precisely this process that creates a texture as soft as velvet. Since the patterns are formed by the colors of the threads themselves, rather than being printed on, the design appears almost identical on the reverse side. It might be more accurate to call them small woven artworks rather than mere towels. Furthermore, because they don't have the loops found in standard pile towels, there is little risk of snagging threads, making them durable and long-lasting.

There is one more reason I was drawn to this type of weaving. When the patterns are woven, they take on an aesthetic reminiscent of pixel art from retro video games.

This isn't a look that is intentionally designed from the start. It happens naturally due to the inherent constraints of the weaving process. I found that slightly unrefined, warm atmosphere utterly charming.
That said, in this day and age, it feels like one could create much finer, more accurate patterns if the digital data were prepared correctly. In fact, that was the very thought that led me to start creating a cat pattern. However, it turned out to be more challenging than I had imagined. Every time a sample arrived, the cats depicted on them often made me wonder, "Who is this cat?"
There were cats that looked sleepy, perplexed with eyes popping out, etc. I encountered so many different cat faces.
Yet, that process of trial and error is precisely what makes this weaving so interesting. It is precisely because the level of detail is reduced that a unique expression emerges.
Perhaps it is somewhat similar to why pixel art remains so beloved today. Of course, you can simply use it as a hand towel to dry your hands. But it offers so much more than that.
You might put it over your favorite Steiff toy at bedtime. Use it to wrap up your Leica camera. Or lay it out on your desk to keep your glasses.
It would bring me great joy if you used it as a cloth to gently wrap the precious things close to you.

1950s is an era when jeans evolved from mere workwear into a fashion icon.
1980s is an era when tennis shoes stepped off the court to become a beloved street-style staple.
